Slack Integration!

Modified on Sat, 21 Aug 2021 at 10:48 PM

Slack is everywhere these days. It’s the go to business communication tool in the startup world.

You might be asking yourself…“why can’t I connect my Trakt account with my Slack team?”

Well, now you can! Connecting to Slack adds Trakt slash commands and notifications. More details on those below.

How do I connect Trakt and Slack?

Head over to your notification settings and click the Connect button next to the Slack icon.

After clicking Connect, Slack will request your permission to authorize access to your team. The commands permission will add a /trakt command to your team. The post to will be used for notifications. If you choose a public channel, just be aware anyone in that channel will see your notifications. A safe bet to start is to choose Slackbot which is private to you.

/trakt commands

Slack has a pretty cool system for slash commands. These are similar to IRC commands if you’ve used those before. We’ve added several /trakt commands to get quick info for shows and movies. The output for these commands will only be visible to you, so no worries about spamming if you run them in a public channel.

Type /trakt in any channel to get a list of all available commands. Here are the available commands for shows

/trakt shows trending
/trakt shows popular
/trakt shows played
/trakt shows watched
/trakt shows collected
/trakt shows anticipated
/trakt shows search [query]

and for movies

/trakt movies trending
/trakt movies popular
/trakt movies played
/trakt movies watched
/trakt movies collected
/trakt movies anticipated
/trakt movies boxoffice
/trakt movies search [query]

Here’s an example what the output looks like for the /trakt movies trending command.

Notifications

Slack notifications are available when someone follows you, @mentions you in a comment, replies to your comment, likes your comment, comments on your list, and likes your list. Each notification can be controlled individually similar to how email notifications work. We’re open to ideas and plan to explore the social sharing options and see if Slack is a good fit for those too.

Share your ideas with us!

We’d love to hear your ideas for additional slash commands and notifications. If you’re in Slack all day like us, it’s kind of cool to have Trakt.tv data at your fingertips!
