Why update the site to begin with? I liked the old layout, its not as if you were losing users thanks to a dated pallet or something.
I want the Library back
@Chris: Someone opened an own idea/thread/ticket regarding the browser freezes: http://support.trakt.tv/forums/188762-general/suggestions/6931763-trying-to-mark-multiple-episodes-as-seen-in-a-row
Looks like traktv2 is broken by design at least I am going to call it that as long as this issue isn't resolved/addressed. While I am not someone of the others who flames for the sake of flaming, I do dislike the way v2 is handled so far. v2 looks stunningly good, although the mobile first - desktop last doctrine hurts me as a desktop user but that's how it is these days.
Also, I am sure Justin does his best and understand that he's pretty much on his own here, in the past and in the Google group I didn't get a different picture at all either.
But as it currently is, v2 was rushed way too much for no valid reason (I wouldn't exactly use the word "collapsed", seems like a huge exaggeration, if the lagging is collapsing, then the freezing issues are worse than just broken by design).
APIv1 got totally broken despite claiming otherwise before the relaunch, APIv2 non-functioning for the most part despite months of planning for the new API, severe website issues like the "freezing" or rather unresponsiveness of browsers, missing basically all core functions at first for days, making the website completely useless, wrong or missing user data (I lost a ton of ratings and "watched"s and who knows how many comments of mine were lost, where I usually put much effort into)..
Well, the damage is area-wide done now, the only thing trakt can do now is learning from these mistakes for the future and make it better than this time. This time things definitely went horrible.
I hope it gets to where it was with v1 faster than it is visible to the user at the moment.
My most important things now:
resolve the freezing issue;
alternative calendar views, for desktop the current view is confusing when you have a dozen or more shows per week;
I want the watched banner back, the huge images and a tiny rating in the corner but no "yes, you watched this" looks absurd. The tiny checkmark at the bottom for "watched" is very confusing when you for example view your calendar and is something you overlook very easily or think the checkmark is for another show;
Mark as watched when I rate something, this annoys me greatly that this isn't the default and the option is gone for now;
I could of course create my own ticket for these things, but seems like a waste of time to me atm and this "idea" here seems to get the most attention anyway.
the site constantly freezes Firefox and Chrome, it is very, veeeery slow. I don't mind the new design and can live with the bits and bobs still missing, but this bug is very annoying. Hope it'll get fixed asap!
I miss the original website :'(
Why didn't you leave v1 and started v2 on a different address until you complete v2?
Can we have v1 back on a different url?
Again, for what feels like the 100th time since the new site launched scrobbling via KODI doesn't work anymore, syncing collected shows and movies has never worked (when will this be solved?) and syncing with SeriesGuide also doesn't work anymore. And all of a sudden certain watched episodes disappeared and then in a second step the episodes disappeared altogether (e.g. first two episodes of Marvel's Agent Carter). What is going on now?
I love the new site when it actually works which it did for a couple of days and now it seems like you broke the working API again. Please fix this asap and it would be awesome if the site was stable for more than a day at a time...
Awesome graphics and feels for the mobile site. Great job and keep workin. :)
'it's just a matter of time to get used to.'
No, it is not.
No matter how long you look at a broken API, you won't get used to its non-functioning.
traktv2 simply stopped working with popular third party software like Plex, XBMC, MCM etc.
without further announcement.
Some users including myself don't mind the shiny new design. They would love to see the interface just working again.
I am starting to get used to the new site, and it's not as bad as some people say, it's just a matter of time to get used to.
I don't know if it's just me or it's a problem with the site or whatever, but seems like some shows are missing? Like I just searched Chicago PD in all ways I could think of to do a "check-in" and everytime I get a "this page doesn't exist".
I really miss the statistics! Where you could see how many hours you have watched in the last year/week/month.

I'm not very happy with the new site. It doesn't work on my phone. I can't see whats the next show. I also miss the progress feature it was great. Also i miss the fact in the detail about the show is endet or not. I also miss to see my friends actifity and i hate the fact that every time i doo something there is a 404 error. At the moment i look the show 24 with kiefer sutherland but i can not mark anything as seen because when i want to go in the 24 show i come to Presidio Med wtf?
I have to agree that the transition could have been handled better but I wonder how many people that are complaining have made any sort of donation to the Trakt product?

In my opinion the site is really sucking right now. It blocks every time I try to use on Android but mostly the thing that's getting me really annoyed is that I can't see what is the next show I have to see from the Season I'm watching. The progress feature that was my favorite was killed and I really hate this as all purpose from the site just went awol. I hope it's going to be fixed or I'll have to go back to episode calendar and I don't really want to... Arggg
Unintentional sarcasm surely will prove as one of the higher incarnations of humor. Someday.
I like the new site and its getting better every day. Keep up the good work :)
The site switchover WAS a choice. Justin was only being dramatic in saying it colapsed on itself. Yes, the site had downtime issues, just like any website, even a large one like Reddit does, but it hasn't been so bad to affect general usage.
According to the tweet below, the site was upgraded because of site slowness. But it's been slow for ages. You should have upgraded to v2 without such a drastic jump - from a sometimes sluggish yet feature-filled site to a still slow and now feature lacking.
If the downtime was really so unavoidable because of database server capacity fail, or caused by a particular way you coded the previous site that meant it had to be abandoned and recoded from scratch, why don't you just explain it to us in a blog post, most of us are nerds that can be understanding to that sort of thing. It might just excuses the shameful first state of your v2 production site.
' Of course, mistakes can be made but let us at least be real about that this is a very poor rollout that is worth critizising'
If it were a choice, I would agree. However, it does not sound like it was. If that's true, it is worth noticing and reporting; not criticizing.
'You just don’t wake up one day and realize that the site doesn’t scale and is collapsing on itself.'
Fair, but from what I can tell, Trakt seems to have had a 'garage' type birth. Something that was not initially designed with the crushing traffic it has now. Perhaps something like this:
Dev 1: 'Hey, let's make a media tracking app.
Dev 2: 'Cool, I'll see if my mom bought some hot pockets and we will get started'
Dev 1: 'We will call it 'Trakt'. You see what I did there... tracking app... Trakt ;)'
'Reflecting upon the comments in here, there’s an overwhelming consensus that it looks and feels absolutely horrible in terms of usability, page layout and use of colors'
I manage a support team for a medium sized game \ software company and see such feedback often. People just don't like change regardless of the need to do so or the real or promised benefits; I get what both sides are going through. However, the rage dive-by posts are just not helpful to their cause or the developer(s). If you want change, take the time to organize sentient thoughts and not something that resembles cro magnon man cave graffiti.
That said, I for one like the new site (although I too am looking forward to missing features returning). If I had to guess, they are using some form of Bootstrap now (forum does not like links but it's a google search away). Makes things easy to manage \ deploy for multiple platforms (phones, PCs, etc). I would bet real money that you will have long since forgotten the old site and come to appreciate the new in short order.
Also, the 'I've watched this' on the move page needs a confirmation/double click feature, because I just accidentally removed an old scrobble thinking that clicking might show me scrobble history...
BTW the profile page also needs to change, why is the entire page a big backdrop with no useful information until you scroll for more? As a designer, and as other UX designers have mentioned, this is very stupid design.
