Restart TV Show Progress While Keeping Episode Watch Count
This problem mainly arose with the most recent 2.0 update to the trakt addon in XBMC, I love the two way syncing system however, when I want to rewatch a tv series I can't make use of the XBMC "watched" feature which is a pain. This happens because if I mark the tv series as unwatched (to start tracking my XBMC progress again) it will automatically mark it as seen upon next load.
I often watch videos on different systems so the two way syncing is like an angel from heaven, however I think that some sort of system on the website should be created to aid in the rewatching of tv series while still keeping the episode watch count. If the "easy" method of rewatching a tv series is taken (marking all episodes as unwatched on trakt) I feel as if it is hindering the trakt service... With people unwatching tv shows that they have seen, it seems like a backwards step from the goal.
I wish that I could suggest a viable method of doing so but I can't seem to think of any...

This feature is now available for all VIP members! When viewing your progress page, click the rewind arrow and choose the date when you started rewatching the show. Your progress page and dashboard up next will update accordingly.
You can use https://trakt.docs.apiary.io/#reference/users/hidden-items/get-hidden-items with a section of "progress_watched_reset" to get that info. FYI, the GitHub API project is the best place for API related questions and discussion.
Would it be possible to include the reset_at value next to last_watched_at and last_updated_at for the user watched progress call ( https://trakt.docs.apiary.io/#reference/users/watched/get-watched ) when setting ?extended=full
No, it won't affect Kodi or any other apps like that. It is up to the app itself to adjust the watched progress. We send back the timestamp of when it was reset and the app needs to calculate and adjust the progress on their own.
How does it affect the Sync with Kodi? If we reset progress in Trakt.tv site, will it return 0 unwanted status for the show in Kodi? Are there any more details about how this feature works?
I was browsing the site and I just noticed this feature was finally added. Thank you so much, Trakt team! This is so amazing and useful
The support.Trakt.tv site uses a separate account than Trakt.tv. So it does not know you are not VIP and just sends notifications to those who have the option turned on.
Thank you Trakt team! Your hard work is appreciated!

I must say, not being a VIP user of Trakt service, it's kinda rude receiving a notification of an idea I supported with votes it's implemented for users just not like me.
What is the status of this? When can we expect this completed? This feature request is now over 5 years old.

@ciaron88, Ok, I have one use case. I've started watching a show so long ago, I want to re-start because I don't really remember what was happening on the plot. The show is not ended yet, so the are episodes I've seen once, the newest episodes with zero plays and the first ones that have at least 2 plays (actually one for every time I've decided to re-start watching the show without ever finishing it).
Is this case covered by your approach?
Have the option to have progress/watched go over 100%.
I like to re-watch programs a lot and have the watched/progress go above 100% would help keep track each go through. On the progress page you could have bar reset when a program goes to 101%, 201% etc... and also have the Next Up episode be the first episode that has one less play that the first episode
Any update on this?
really waiting for this feature
Is this still being worked on? Now that trakt tracks the watch date of episodes, there could be a setting for a show, "Rewatch starting on <date>", with watch dates before that date being set to unwatched in terms of syncing

Also in need of this feature now. It's been promised by Justin Nemeth in November 2013 already. Any update? Willing to pay ;-).
I'm in this situation now, I'm rewatching a show and would love to be able to track my progress again.
I love to rewatch the shows I have seen a long time ago, and even shows which are currently airing, on hiatus e.g. So it would be great if we could have a progress bar for rewatching a show. On the progress page, would appear a new percentage bar (maybe with another color to differentiate from the 1st time watch), and the next episode to rewatch would appear on the right, just like watching it for the 1st time, but adding to the existing plays. Maybe on the filters we could have a "Rewatching" option, and the show count on the left could have like on the episodes "28 shows (30 plays)" e,g,
I hope you consider this idea.
I'm rewatching several different shows right now and have noticed how annoying it is to have to search for the show, then select the season and then the episode I wanna check in to.
It would be great to get sort of an "on deck to watch" thing for rewatches as well. Not in the same place as the new shows, but maybe below it or something.
Of course it could be an issue if people wanted to randomly rewatch unrelated episodes, but maybe there could be an option for people to manually select that they're rewatching an entire show and then that show would start to be tracked again, even though the episodes have already been watched before.
I started re-watching (already watched in full) a show from start and it doesn't appear in the 'On my deck to watch' which is logic because I already watched it. It would be great to have an option to include my current progress.
Just a suggestion, if it's too dificult to implement don't bother.
I would love to be able to go back and watch an episode easily without changing the watch status. Once I watch something it disappears and I can't go into the complete series in XBMC to see all seasons unless they are Unwatched. The only way I have found to do this is to add the show to my collection. Sometimes I would rather just be able to go up one level and pop into a different season for a quick view of something.

Is this really still not done yet? I'm re-watching 24 before starting Season 9 and because I have "Hide watched" enabled in XBMC, every time XBMC syncs with Trakt, it resets S01-S08 as watched again even though I set them as unwatched in XBMC. Kind of sucks.
