Improve the recommendation engine
I really enjoy the service, I am considering paying for VIP access, but one thing that makes me mad in particular is the fact that the recommendations are so random. Based on what's hot in the first place and then maybe by some personal preference.
For example, in my library I did not have a single comedy show. I just don't enjoy them. In the recommendations I got: Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Modern Family, etc.
It would be really nice to either name the recommendations 'see what's popular' or change the engine so it would recommend things that are similar to one's taste.
The recommendations are still processing, but in the mean time it’s been updated to recommend more relevant shows instead of blank or really weird shows. We’ll continue improving it.

Any update on this or has it just been forgotten?

It's now late November 2017. How do you feel you're doing processing those recommendations?

Hey it's me from the year 2017, any REAL PROGRESS yet??? HELLOOOOO
+1 also you (Justin Nemeth (Founder, trakt)) marked this as completed. you can't say it is completed if you are still processing.
either you fixed it. or you are still working on it.
the recommendations on the old site worked great... what i also liked about te old recommendations is that you could choose your genre. in stead of just getting random recommendations from any tv/movie genre there is. or getting show's you've rated 1 star recommended to you...

Added your addon to Kodi. Got excited about the service. Honey, we'll find a ton of new shows to watch. Sat rating things for hours. And after the marking the uptenth CSI/NCIS/senior-citizen-cop-show with one star, I realized your recommendations are not based on anything, at all, to do with my profile and instead just randomly pull things that have 70%+ ratings.
Before I uninstall my addon, I thought I would check the forums to see if maybe I wasn't giving it enough time. Saw Mr. Nemeth's boilerplate generic post above, and cya later Trakt.
Yes, this is why I left a comment saying we'll continue to improve the recommendation engine. We have a plan to make the results more relevant.
The recommendations on this site are pure garbage.
"If you liked Lets Kill Ward's Wife (a movie about a group of guys killing one of their wives and trying to cover it up) check out Finding Nemo or Up"
"If you liked Wild Target (a movie about a British Assassin) check out Brave or the Lego movie"
Most of my recommendations are for French shows? I don't even speak French. The recommendations are few and unappealing. If Trakt isn't good at finding new things for me to watch, what is it good for?
Hmm, I've rated 10-20 movies and about as many tv shows, but trakt still says "We'll start recommending movies and TV shows once you start rating your favorites." - Why?
Additional bit from me: http://puu.sh/g9SeX/c6250d8f80.png
Trakt suggest I watch movies that I already watched.
@Justin Nemeth, have you considered open sourcing the recommender engine on Github? It doesn't seem like a fundamental part of the service, in the sense that you would be giving Trakt away, whilst the open source community will do a better job of creating a decent recommender than any small group of developers could in the same timeframe...
I have to agree with the recommendations, im constantly dismissing them via the API and get back more movies and shows I could possible have no interest in.
It definitely needs work in v2.
Currently the recommendations I get are completely irrelevant. Makes me wonder what kind of algorithm is being used... I wish recommendations would be better based on the things I watch and like.
Jinni is complicated
I don't think it has been implemented yet.
