I'm still not able to buy the yearly description with paypal.
This is no rant but you are making a big mistake here. You should never ever frustrate a potential user that is willing to give you money. This should be your rule number one.
German accounts will now use PayPal standard for payments. Credit card payments via Stripe are also a good option for German users.
It shouldn't be an issue that I know of. Please contact support with the error you're getting and we can take a look. We also have alternatives if PayPal still won't work.

Just pushed an update for this issue. It will use PayPal standard for German users (it auto detects your location). In my testing, this allowed German accounts to signup correctly with PayPal for the VIP program. Credit card payments via Stripe are always an option for German users as well.
It's an issue with PayPal subscriptions in Germany, on PayPal's side they don't allow it (exact reason is unclear as to why). I've confirmed this directly with PayPal, but I am going to reach out again and push them to give a real reason why.
The workaround for us would be re-coding our current implementation using another PayPal product (that's costs more naturally :) and we're looking into that. Another option would be to allow one time payments which afaik should work from German accounts. It is specifically subscriptions that are giving the error.
It's definitely not our intention to disallow payments from anywhere and I'm hoping to get a fix by next week. Will keep you posted.

sorry to bump an old thread but the issue is persistent and should not have been marked as completed. The "solution" provided just states the obvious, hardly provides a workaround (see boecht's comment) nor does it provide an explanation on whether it's a PayPal or trakt issue.
I am also a German user and that's the message I receive when choosing the $15 yearly option, after the PayPal login:
"Zurück zu trakt, inc.
Zurzeit können wir Ihre Anfrage leider nicht verarbeiten. Kehren Sie zu trakt, inc. zurück und wählen sie eine andere Option aus."
"Back to trakt, inc.
We are currently unable to process your request. Go back to trakt, inc. and choose another option."
I just contacted the German PayPal customer support. They confirmed that my account is "OK" and they do not block the transaction from their side. Instead it may be a sellers restriction on which criteria a buyer must meet.
So Justin, please let us know if trakt deliberately does not want to receive payments from German PayPal users. Otherwise, please contact the PayPal US support and figure out how to solve this.
Another reason why I prefer PayPal over credit card, especially for recurring payments, is the fact that if something changes, I only need to change the payment data (IBAN, credid card nr etc.) once at PayPal and not at dozens of shops/service providers all over the place.
We want to throw money at you ;) Don't make it so hard for your German customers.
If there is really no way for users from Germany (and maybe other countries too) to pay via PayPal, please state this clearly on the "Support trakt & become a VIP!" page. Thanks.

According to PayPal Germany some US based sellers have problems with german PayPal accounts due to them not being "US verified" (so "non-US verified", I think!?). Since their best automated advice was "try again", maybe the US support can actually help you with that.
Apart from my personal preference, credit cards are not very common amongst the younger demographics in Germany (and most other countries in Europe). Preferring bank transfer is a cultural thing, resulting in you currently missing out on quite some potential VIP members.
For me, stripe is no alternative since they don't comply with European data protection laws or customer protection laws and are North America-based only. You wouldn't send money via Nigeria neither, would you? ;)
Yeah, on the account level we have at PayPal it's been confirmed there are issues with german paypal accounts and repeating payments. PayPal has other products that might work, but it's something we need to look into.
By subscription you mean repeating payments right?
Like i say, i use paypal for other sites with "subscriptions" as well. For example spotify (monthly) or rapidshare.
It's a problem with subscriptions, german accounts don't allow it due to a PayPal policy. We will be looking into offering a non-recurring payment but that is not implemented yet.

I don't understand whats the problem. I use paypal with a lot of other sites, so it cannot be a general problem with German accounts.
We offer a credit card option instead of PayPal. Does that work for you?
